Darxide EMP™ - Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the supplied manual and the topics below and see if your problem or question is covered.

I can’t install or run the game, it tells me my PPC is out of memory:

You will need to free up some memory in your Pocket PC to allow Darxide EMP to install and run.  You can do this by deleting programs using the ‘Remove Programs’ application in the Settings folder, ‘System’ tab.  Please be sure to only remove programs that you have a known good backup of.   Also see you PPC manual for other information about managing memory on the device.

The game doesn’t run, I get an error:  “ Cannot find 'Darxide EMP' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available."

It is likely you are using an older Pocket PC model which does not ship with the Microsoft GAPI library as standard.  Please download the file gx.dll by clicking here and place it in your my Device > Windows folder.

The game doesn’t run, I get an error:  "%1 is not a valid Win32 application"

As with the previous error, it is likely you are using an older Pocket PC model which does not ship with a suitable Microsoft GAPI library file as standard.  Please download the file gx.dll by clicking here and place it in your my Device > Windows folder.

I see an intermittent screen glitch, looks like some random pixels are being plotted in a line:

We have seen this problem with some Pocket PCs, it is usually most apparent on the initial Frontier logo screen, and tends to disappear during game-play.  We have investigated and currently believe it is due to interference on the hardware’s memory bus, which we can’t do anything about in software.

Can Darxide EMP™ be installed to a storage card?

Yes, we have done this in development numerous times (SD Card in iPAQ 3870). When the main game's auto-installer runs it automatically puts the game into a folder it creates Program Files > Darxide EMP and shortcuts to there into the Start Menu, so you would have to manually transfer it onto a storage card and run it yourself from there.

The only effect we have noticed is a slight (~1 second) audio glitch as the game starts (the game then continues unaffected), which we assume is just an artefact of the slower memory on the storage card until the game is expanded into main memory, otherwise there have been no problems noted or reported so we are confident this will work for you if you can tolerate that minor issue.

However any saved games are stored under the folder at "My Documents\Darxide EMP GameFiles" and this location cannot be changed. You can manually copy all the files within this folder to the storage card, but they will have to be copied back into the "My Documents\Darxide EMP GameFiles" folder if you want to continue playing a previously saved game.

My FileMailer tells me that the file it was looking for can’t be found:

If you are still in the early stages of the game this is probably because the e-mail-able high score / statistics file is only written out after you do complete the mission where your score grows above 100,000 points.  After this, it is  updated every time you get a personal high-score.  You will be prompted on exiting the game if there is a new high score file to be e-mailed.

There’s no sound:

Please check that your Pocket PC’s volume isn’t muted, or that you haven’t switched sound effects off by mistake in the Darxide EMP Options menu.
